The current owner of El Techo tells me via email:
“this isn’t a permanent closure but a reorganization that will breath new life into the concept….Reopening in early 2026…

from our archives in 2017 before the roof deck went to eleven…
“El Techo isn’t going away — it’s evolving.
After years of building this rooftop, I’m stepping away from day-to-day ownership and proudly passing the torch to some of our most tenured, passionate team members — the people who helped create the energy, culture, and soul of this place. Our most loved team members now get a shot to live their “American Dream!”
We’ll be taking a short pause after this weekend to refresh the space and reset with intention. The team is excited to reopen in early 2026 (date TBD) with renewed energy, great music, and the same love for hospitality that made El Techo what it is.
This isn’t an ending — it’s a transition.
A passing of the torch.
The next chapter is already in motion.
Thank you for the love. We’ll see you soon.
Cheers,
Louie”
On their IG they shared:
“El Techo – A New Chapter
Fourteen years ago, this journey began as a food truck with a belief that something special could be created from nothing. That spark became Rito Loco and eventually El Techo—a rooftop built on connection, music, celebration, and unforgettable moments shared with thousands of people.
Over the past decade, El Techo has been home to countless memories—sunsets, birthdays, tacos, tequila, bottomless brunches, first dates, dancing, late nights, early mornings, and experiences that made people feel alive. This place was never just a restaurant. It was a community. A feeling. A vibe that brought people together.
For years, we poured everything we had into creating a space where people could connect, celebrate, and be themselves. We’re proud of the grit, the growth, and the resilience that defined this rooftop. But we’ve also learned that you cannot keep pouring from a well that never gets refilled. After moving through shifting conditions and an evolving industry, it has become clear that the healthiest and most aligned next step is to close this chapter with intention.
El Techo will officially close this weekend, with our final day of service on Sunday, December 21st.
To honor our history, culture, and the energy that made El Techo what it is, our former Music Director, Dastan, will return to play on Saturday, December 20th, from 5 PM to 10 PM. It feels right that the person who helped shape our sound, our heartbeat, and our weekends will close out this rooftop one final time.
And while this chapter is ending, another is already beginning.
Some of our most tenured and dedicated staff—the very people who helped build the soul of this place—will be stepping into ownership and carrying El Techo forward. They are excited to reopen in early 2026 (TBD) and write the next chapter with fresh spirit, new ideas, and the same heart that made this space special.
To the staff who poured their all into every shift—thank you.
To the DJs who brought the energy to life—thank you.
To the guests who shared laughter, celebrations, and unforgettable stories, thank you.
You were the soul of this rooftop.
You were the reason this dream came alive!
Louie”
Here’s what it looked like from our archives back in 2013. Anyone remember Reese’s?
