“What’s Going on with 311?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m genuinely curious if anyone has insight into this. Over the past six months, I’ve submitted approximately two to three 311 requests regarding various issues( potholes, missed trash collection) most recently a recurring road hazard near a school.

Today, I submitted a new request concerning a street obstruction that has persisted since October 20th. The issue involves cone barriers placed by a production company in the middle of a school zone, significantly limiting vehicle access and creating unsafe conditions for students. Parents and school staff have repeatedly moved the cones to restore safe passage, only for the production crew to reposition them.

What’s particularly concerning is a pattern I’ve noticed with recent 311 submissions: they’re marked as “closed” or “resolved” within minutes;

sometimes as quickly as five to eight minutes after submission. This rapid turnaround raises questions about whether the requests are being meaningfully reviewed or simply closed by AI.

I’m wondering if others have observed similar patterns, or if this has been happening for longer than I realized. While many of my past 311 requests have gone unresolved, I continue to submit them in the hope that they’ll eventually be addressed…however ridiculous that may feel in the current climate.

I’ve attached screenshots of today’s request and the near-immediate closure email for reference. I’d appreciate hearing your thoughts or experiences.”
