Nuli soft-opened its first U.S. location in late August inside Downtown DC’s The Square, at 1850 K Street, NW. The concept introduces DC residents and visitors to a fresh, nutrition-forward take on African-inspired cuisine through a vibrant, farm fresh menu featuring cold-pressed juices, salads, suya-spice chicken wings, freshly-baked naan bread wraps and customer favorite, Africa Magic Jollof rice and Fonio bowls, served with plantains, a green salad and a red bell-pepper sauté. The menu’s flavors are influenced not only by culinary traditions across Africa’s 54 countries, but also by the confluence of cultures within the continent, including elements of Mediterranean, Latin American and Indian ingredients. African superfoods like fonio, moringa, cassava, and baobab, can be found throughout the menu, ensuring these nutrient-dense, climate-resilient indigenous crops, sourced directly from smallholder farmers in Africa, are showcased to a global customer base. They are featured alongside fresh farm produce from American farmers in the region, highlighting Nuli’s ongoing commitment to supporting local agriculture in the places it operates. Popular menu highlights include the Zobo juice (Hibiscus, pineapple, and ginger root), gluten-free cassava naan wraps, and the Africa Magic Bowls, available with West African-style jollof rice, fonio, fried-rice or couscous, and a variety of protein options such as tandoori-grilled chicken, sautéd shrimp, beef meat balls, boiled eggs and avocados.”
