Dear PoPville

“Seeking jeweler recommendations for “a small, but perhaps odd, custom project.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to crowdsource a jeweler recommendation for a small, but perhaps odd, custom project. I have a monogrammed ring in what looks like bronze or copper, and it has an empty pronged setting. The ring is quite old, likely late 19th century. I’d like to place a gemstone in the setting, and have the ring resized without damaging the monogram.

I asked one jeweler

(Shelter), and while they do heirloom redesigns, they’ll only create new settings for heirloom stones, rather than adding a new stone to an heirloom setting. I’ve also been warned that fine jewelers also may not work with metals that aren’t precious (e.g. gold, platinum). So I’m a bit at a loss about where to go next. I’ll really appreciate any and all answers from PoPville.”
