MPD disputes reader’s experience with “hit-and-run at 17th & S NW”, says “Officers thoroughly investigated this incident, made and arrest, and have applied for a warrant for the arrest of an additional offender.”

From MPD’s Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist, Tom Lynch:

“On Friday, September 5, 2025, at approximately 2:58 p.m., Third District officers were flagged down at the intersection of 17th and S Streets NW in reference to a hit and run. Officers canvassed for the suspect vehicle, located it, and performed a traffic stop. Ultimately, the driver was placed under arrest for Counterfeit Tags. During the on-scene investigation, officers determined a passenger in the vehicle was the driver at the time of the hit and run. Officers have applied for an arrest warrant for the passenger in reference to the hit and run.

The Metropolitan Police Department would like to express our thanks to the community members who flagged the officers down after witnessing the offense.”
