“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share a moment of joy from Friday night. After a lovely evening on Mt. Pleasant St. that started with happy hour at OKPB and turned into dinner at Martha Dear, I happened upon a screening of Las Muertes Más Bellas del Mundo (The Most Beautiful Deaths in the World) in Lamont Plaza — a documentary about the Salvadoran diaspora in DC.

As I sat in the plaza watching the film, I realized how thankful I am to live in a diverse community where I can learn from the experiences of others that are different from me. While nowhere near perfect, the way our city is being portrayed as a cesspool couldn’t be farther from the truth. Stay magical, Mt. Pleasant!

If you’re interested in seeing Las Muertes Más Bellas del Mundo, there is a free screening at the Mt. Pleasant Library on Sunday September 21 at 2pm. It is also playing at the AFI Latin American Film Festival in Silver Spring on October 1st.

Side note: I believe the screening was part of the Mt. Pleasant Community Calendar launch party Friday night!”
