From So Others Might Eat:
“Dear SOME Community,
We’re reaching out with an urgent request. Amid a nationwide decline in food donations, SOME’s Food Pantry is critically low on essential food items. This pantry provides groceries and household staples to hundreds of D.C. residents every week—and right now, our shelves are nearly bare.
Together, we’ve built a compassionate community. You’ve always shown up when it matters most, and today is one of those moments.
“Our food pantry is critically important for the individuals and families who come to us every Tuesday and Friday, relying on SOME for support. It’s a vital resource for children, seniors, and low-income families in our community who might otherwise go without adequate nutrition. Beyond providing food, the pantry fosters a sense of compassion and community and encourages neighbors to support one another. Especially during times of economic hardship or personal crisis, it plays a crucial role in reducing hunger and restoring hope.”
— Ray Burley, In-Kind Services Manager
We’re asking for your help to restock the pantry and ensure our neighbors have access to the food and stability they deserve.
Here’s how you can support:
Organize a canned food or essentials drive with your workplace, school, faith group, or neighborhood.
Donate high-need items like canned vegetables, beans, pasta, rice, and shelf-stable proteins.
Share this urgent need with your network—your voice can inspire action.
Purchase directly from SOME’s Amazon Wish List. Items are shipped straight to SOME, making it a fast and convenient way to give. *Items purchased through Amazon are not tax-deductible donations.
Every effort—large or small—helps fill shelves, feed families, and fuel the hope that defines our mission.
If you or your company is willing to host a food drive and needs items picked up, please contact Ray Burley, In Kind Services Manager, at [email protected].
Thank you for being part of this compassionate community—and for standing with SOME when it’s needed most.
With deep gratitude,
The SOME Team
P.S. If you’re unable to donate food at this time, a financial contribution can make a powerful impact. Every dollar helps ensure no one in our city goes hungry.
