“El Sol Celebrates 10-year anniversary June 25th”

1227 11th Street, NW

From a press release:

“El Sol Restaurante & Tequileria, the beloved taqueria once hailed by The Washington Post’s Tim Carman as “the best taqueria in Washington by a long shot,” is turning ten — and the community is invited to the celebration.

On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, El Sol will mark its 10-year anniversary with an unforgettable evening of food, music, dancing, and the reopening of its patio.

For $50, the celebration will feature complimentary margaritas, a tequila tasting from 1953 Tequila, and an array of classic Mexican dishes made from cherished family recipes. A live Mariachi band will perform from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, adding traditional flair to the festivities.

In honor of the milestone, a portion of the evening’s proceeds will benefit Ayuda, a nonprofit organization providing direct legal, social, and language services to low-income immigrants across the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia region.

“El Sol’s commitment to fostering inclusive communities resonates deeply with our mission of supporting immigrants,” said Paula Fitzgerald, Executive Director of Ayuda. “We are excited to celebrate this milestone with El Sol and are profoundly grateful for their dedication to uplifting immigrant communities and advancing social change.”

Originally founded in 2014 on 14th Street NW and then moved to its permanent home on 11th Street NW in 2015 by chefs Alfredo and Jessica Solis, El Sol began as a modest taqueria inspired by their mother’s recipes and their own culinary experience matriculating through the school of hospitality in various roles. Over the past decade, the brother-sister duo has opened several other restaurants in the D.C. area — some of which have come and gone — but El Sol remains the beating heart of their culinary journey.

“It’s where it all started,” says Chef Alfredo Solis. “We’ve grown, evolved, and expanded, but El Sol has always been home — a place where we share our heritage, flavors, and community spirit.”
