Are you familiar with these slash marks of trees around this size at this height?
Reminds me of what happened to trees of a lesser size in Logan Circle in the ‘90’s.
Can’t be certain but I believe these are caused by dogs being trained to fight…the thinking (or lack there of) seems to be to try to strengthen the dog’s jaws by getting it to jump up and bite the tree.
I hate to give publicity to those who are doing this but these trees have been severely damaged. One or two are likely to die. And this is relatively new behavior along the east side 15th St. between say Q St and up to maybe T St.”
