“Dear PoPville,
I was at Big Bear Cafe on Sunday early evening. While I waited for a friend, I overheard you and your two friends chatting. To my delight, an Argento (or possibly an Uruguayo) accent. As a comadre, my ears always perk up and my spirit gets giddy whenever I hear that dead giveaway: the accent from my homeland.
In the time I had left to wait for my friend, I thought about ordering a tea to sit nearby and work up the courage to ask if you all were from where I suspected and introduce myself. Just as I got my order, I saw you all walking away.
You were sitting facing the street, with your two friends facing you.
I was the petite woman with the green jacket, orange skirt, and on a video call for a little while with my family in Argentina, standing near the cafe entrance. And then the piba thinking “que tonta” for not shooting my shot!”
