Donate, don’t dump your home goods and building materials!
The US produces over 600 million tons of construction waste every single year. A lot of that material could be used again if it weren’t destroyed during demolition. However, it doesn’t have to be that way!
Deconstruction is like construction in reverse. Rather than demolishing parts of a building, skilled workers carefully dismantle materials piece by piece. This way, items from renovations can be donated to Community Forklift and reused rather than dumped into local landfills.
What’s more, since Community Forklift is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, donors can gain a tax deduction by writing off the value of the deconstructed items as a charitable contribution.
Once the materials are deconstructed, Community Forklift redistributes them to the community in a number of ways:
- Through our D.C. area, reuse warehouse store at below-market prices
- Distributed for free to community groups and other nonprofits
- Provided for free to households with limited incomes
