From Planet Word:

“Planet Word, the museum of words and language, announces new experiences that celebrate Spanish-language stories and spotlight multilingualism. To mark the occasion, Planet Word will host Spanish-language family activities on Saturday, June 8. All events are free;

advanced registration is strongly encouraged. Reserve free timed tickets at www.planetwordmuseum.org.

Beginning this month, Planet Word’s immersive Schwarzman Family Library will bring to life five Spanish-language stories, representing the first time the museum’s Library gallery has featured books in a language other than English. Each one-of-a-kind book is embedded with an RFID chip that, when placed on the Library’s Story Table, triggers illustrations, narration, and insights into the book and its author. Watch a video clip of guests interacting with Library books.

The new Library additions are: children’s book Mango, Abuela y yo by Meg Medina with illustrations by Angela Dominguez; young adult novel Furia by Yamile Saied Méndez; young adult novel La Ciudad de las Bestias by Isabel Allende; El Hablador by Mario Vargas Llosa; and Solito by Javier Zamora. All text and audio narration for these new books are in Spanish.

Planet Word will also introduce a new installation, “Multilingualism,” that explores the value of speaking more than one language. Grounded in facts and science, the 14-minute interactive recognizes the cognitive, cultural, professional, and social benefits of multilingualism in the United States and beyond.

“With our newest experiences, Planet Word continues to create meaningful, inclusive experiences and accessible entry points for visitors to explore language,” remarked Ann Friedman, Founder and CEO of Planet Word.
