“Takoma Park’s Restaurant Scene Expands

DC area favorite Mexican restaurant, Cielo Rojo, is now open in its new location

in Takoma Park at 7211 Carroll Ave in the Takoma Junction. The new spot is 4 times the size of its original Takoma Park restaurant and is a stunning transformation of the space – a former car repair shop. The new location includes an expanded menu which offers authentic Mexican dishes and creative interpretations.

Muoi Tieu began as a Vietnamese food truck in Takoma Park in December 2022 and has moved into its first brick and mortar home in the heart of Takoma Park (at the former Mark’s Kitchen location.) Muoi Tieu will open today at 5pm with a small, but carefully curated menu that offers a combination of popular Vietnamese dishes and less common home-style dishes with gluten-free and vegan options. Its small market also offers a variety of common Vietnamese condiments, pantry items, and Asian snacks.Online ordering is not offered at this time, but subject to change in the near future along with expanded hours and additional menu options.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
