Open Streets is coming to Georgia Avenue Saturday October 7 from 9 am-3 pm

All ages are invited for a day of family friendly activities as we close 3 miles of Georgia Avenue to cars and open it up to people! Join the live performances by Crush Funk Brass Band, UCB, QualiDy Step Team, Washington Warriors Drumline, as well as a host of singers and instrumentalists. Plus, an array of outdoor fitness activities.

Open Streets Georgia Avenue also offers bike tune-up clinics from Washington Area Bike Association, Upshift Workshop, and our sponsor Capital Bikeshare, plus FREE helmets, swag, scooter and bike lessons plus rides from sponsors LIME and LYFT.

DDOT is excited to announce our first Bike Giveaway for Open Streets Georgia Avenue where District residents can apply to receive a FREE BIKE (65 adult and 20 kids bikes).

Open Streets helps inspire people to think differently about their streets by encouraging physical activity, creating recreational opportunities, fostering community building, and education to demonstrate the District’s commitment to multimodal transportation. Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
