“Dear PoPville,

I am looking for witnesses to a pretty dramatic near-collision that happened a few minutes ago (Tuesday, 6/13 2:45 PM). I was in a light blue Mini traveling westbound on Porter St NW, waiting at the red light right at Connecticut. I was in the center lane that takes you straight across Connecticut.

I could tell the car in the left turn only lane wanted to go straight, but this isn’t even about that driver. I mention it only because when our light turned green and that driver and I both started to go across CT Ave together, with that car behind me and to my left, clearly trying to merge in behind me, about halfway across the intersection I saw a giant silver GMC pickup barreling up CT Ave northbound through the red light, about to t-bone me.

I swerved pretty wildly into northbound CT Ave to avoid the crash. Thank god there were no pedestrians. There was no impact; I have minor injuries from being slammed around inside my own car.

I pulled over on CT Ave northbound and put my flashers on. The truck, to my surprise, stopped as well. I spent several seconds just sitting to collect myself and then got out to talk to the other driver.

She was a caucasian woman, maybe 65 or 70 years old. No front plate so I have no idea where she was from. She was checking out the side and back of her truck which was odd because if there was going to be damage it would have been to the front of her truck. And there was no actual collision. She looked at me and I just said “what happened?” She thought about it for a minute, then pointed a finger at me and said “you ran a red light.” Well that was so NOT what happened and if I had run a red light there were about 15 other cars on CT (all sitting at their still very red light). Those cars would all have been swerving all around me if I had run the light. I said “my light was green.” She said “you ran a red light,” got back into her truck and left the scene, leaving me standing there. A nice guy at the bus stop just looked at me and said “you didn’t run a red light. She knew she was wrong and that’s why she left.” I felt weird asking him for his info since there wasn’t any actual collision.

I don’t know if she took my plate number – I certainly didn’t get hers. But I’d love to be put in touch with any witnesses who can vouch for my story if she tries to make something up and come after my insurance or me. Since I have no damage to my car it might be pretty hard for her to prove that but just in case. Thanks.”

We’re about a month out from summer. That means you’ve still got time for spring cleaning!

Lexi Grant, an operations manager at Well-Paid Maids, shared her go-to spring cleaning tips with WTOP News. Step one? Declutter. Get rid of items you don’t use, find space for items that need a home and organize those areas.

Then, it’s time to dust. Lexi starts with high-touch surface areas (think: refrigerator, dishwasher, counters, microwave). One area she sees often neglected is the bedroom — and it makes sense. Heavy furniture is difficult to move around, but it’s important to really get in there so dust doesn’t affect your sleep.
