Slice of Life Pie Sale and Fundraiser Provides Meals to Neighbors with Illnesses

Food & Friends’ annual Thanksgiving pie sale and fundraiser, Slice of Life is happening now through November 16!

Each pie purchased through Slice of Life provides one full day of nutritious meals for Washington area neighbors battling cancer, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, or other serious illnesses.

Local favorite Whisked! Bakery is teaming up with Food & Friends again this year as their official pie partner. Each pie is handmade, and ingredients are sourced from farms close to the region. The gourmet pies are available in five delicious flavors: Apple Crumble, Classic Pumpkin, Sweet Potato, Nutty Pecan, and a decadent Sea Salt Chocolate Chess. Pie prices start at $28.

Pre-purchased pies can be picked up on Tuesday, November 22 at 35 convenient walk-up, curbside or drive-thru locations throughout the D.C. metro region. Call Your Mother Deli and the Brookland Arts Walk are new partners this year, so you can plan a relaxing day browsing local arts and makers or grab a delicious bagel sandwich and coffee when you pick up your pies. Because you deserve it!

All pies are 9″ rounds and packaged in a sturdy, gift-quality box. Purchasers can also donate a pie to a Food & Friends client, to be delivered to their doors by caring volunteers on Thanksgiving Day, along with a beautiful turkey dinner. Food & Friends home-delivers freshly prepared medically tailored meals year-round but Thanksgiving is a special tradition where they send a traditional feast to be shared with families.

79% of the individuals served by Food & Friends have a household income of less than $1,500 per month. Slice of Life is a great way to have a direct impact in providing relief for people in our region who are not only experiencing the hardships of a serious illness, but also facing nutrition insecurity.

Community members throughout the area with serious health challenges depend on Food & Friends for their meals, six days a week. Food & Friends is a leading member of the national Food Is Medicine Coalition, a network of direct-service nonprofits who provide medically tailored meals and nutrition therapy to adults and children living with serious illnesses. Food & Friends’ staff and volunteers expect to deliver more than 1.56 million meals in 2022.

Just by buying a delicious pie, you can help a local family in need during this season of gratitude. Place an order at sliceoflifedc.org/shopping-cart or call (202) 269-6826 to help Food & Friends bring holiday cheer to those who need it the most.

Pie sales close on Wednesday, November 16 and more information about Slice of Life is available at: sliceoflifedc.org.

Finding a gift for moms can be difficult. Google “Mother’s Day gifts,” and you’ll scroll through endless lists of beauty products, candles and fuzzy robes. Sure, those are sweet, but sometimes it’s fun to surprise loved ones with something a little more, well, practical!

Here’s one idea: Give her a gift certificate for a home cleaning from Well-Paid Maids. It’s the perfect “thank you,” “I love you” or “you’ve got this” for any mom. She can schedule the home cleaning at her convenience and breathe easy knowing she has one less thing to do.

Our cleaners will take care of everything, including vacuuming and mopping as well as cleaning and dusting countertops, tables, mirrors, appliances and more. Sinks, toilets, showers and appliance exteriors also get a good scrub.
