DDOT’s Open Streets coming to Wisconsin Ave on Saturday

“On Saturday, November 5, 2022, the DC Department of Transportation’s Open Streets event will take place in the District of Columbia. In conjunction with this event, there will be parking restrictions and street closures that motorists should take into consideration:

The following street will be posted as Emergency No Parking from 2:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.:

Wisconsin Avenue from Western Avenue to Tenley Circle, NW

The following street will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.:

Wisconsin Avenue from Western Avenue to Tenley Circle, NW

Please note, although vehicular traffic will not be able to cross Wisconsin Avenue from Western Avenue to Tenley Circle, NW, from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., residents will still be able to access their homes if they live east or west of Wisconsin Avenue by using alternative routes other than Wisconsin Avenue.”

“Open Streets is Coming to Wisconsin Avenue NW on Saturday November 5, 2022 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm! All ages are invited for a morning of live performances by Top 5 Band, and the Kevin Jefferson Quartet plus an array of outdoor activities such as interactive art installations from Chalk Riot, Project Create and Harpist Art, a crochet and knitting station from Kyra’s Kreations, and a Pony Petting Zoo! A;so swing by St. Ann DC tent to make a card for your favorite veteran, snag some hot chocolate and hot dogs from the local Weichert Office plus wine tastings, outdoor markets and so much more!

Open Streets helps inspire people to think differently about their streets by encouraging physical activity, creating recreational opportunities, and fostering community building and education. This event aims to improve transportation safety by illustrating the benefits of active transportation modes, activating public spaces for safe use by all people, and demonstrating the District’s commitment to multimodal transportation. Open Streets Wisconsin Ave welcomes bike tune-up clinics from ForestPlanet Inc, and bike displays from ElectriCityBikes and Open Streets Sponsor Capital Bikeshare, plus FREE helmets, helmet decorating and scooter demos from Open Streets sponsor LIME. Get active on the pickle ball courts hosted by Tennis Zone Plus or dive into one of the many FREE wellness, yoga and fitness classes and presentations in the Open Streets Fitness Zones:

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
