Thanks to Alyssa for passing on from The Red Hen (1822 1st Street, NW):

“Launching tonight! Escape to the Islands of Sicily and Sardinia with a collection of Red Hen classics and exciting new dishes perfect for picnicing (or enjoying at home next to the air conditioning!)

Start with a Sardinian Fregola Salad with toasted pearl pasta, roasted corn, charred peppers, and feta, or try a refreshing Marinated Summer Tomatoes ‘Siciliano’ with heirloom & cherry tomatoes, fresh oregano, fried bread, Sicilian tuna, and basil!

Next, move on to our new Charred Spanish Octopus with fried potatoes, toasted marinated chilies, mint, and saffron aioli, or try the newest pasta on the block, the Maloreddus with Sardinian cavatelli, spicy lamb sausage, chick peas, broccolini, and pecorino. Still hungry? Try our new Sicilian Meatballs made with local beef and served on tahini yogurt with currants, pine nuts, toasted sesame, oregano, and parsley.

Don’t forget the wine! Pair your Island Summer feast with a wine kit showcasing the diverse landscape of Sicilian and Sardinian wine!

Featuring three bottles from the islands’ most interesting producers, this kit includes an overview of Sicilian and Sardinian wine; producer profiles; and tasting notes with pairing suggestions for our Island Summer menu.

All wines have been hand-selected by Wine Director Joe Quinn and will be available individually as well!
