From a press release:

“HalfSmoke (651 Florida Avenue, NW), known for its gourmet, house-made sausages and signature wood-grilled entrées, is pleased to debut Butter Me Up, a new virtual kitchen pop-up to help meet the demand for additional breakfast options in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. Spearheaded by Michelle Andrade, general manager & chief operating officer for HalfSmoke, Butter Me Up’s mission is to curate innovative, yet familiar breakfast staples while uplifting the community on a path to wellness and self-care. Beginning Friday, May 8, Butter Me Up will offer a rotating selection of breakfast sandwiches, coffee, tea and two boozy cocktails available a la carte.

All sandwiches are made from scratch and incorporate fresh, local ingredients as well as homegrown goods produced in Washington, D.C. including Gordy’s Pickle Jar, Panorama Bakery, Logan’s Sausage, Büna Coffeehouse and Southeastern Roastery. Additionally, each sandwich will come with a pay-it-forward action card to encourage individuals to spread love throughout the community. Examples include: “Text Your Best Friend a Fond Memory You Have of Them” or “Make a Stranger Smile Today.” Patrons who collect five loyalty cards will receive a complimentary sandwich.

“The idea was born out of quarantine,” says Michelle Andrade, general manager & chief operating officer for HalfSmoke. “I, like many, had a hard time adjusting to our new normal. I wanted to remind everyone how important it is to start the day with good intentions. We have limited breakfast options in Shaw, and most of our favorite coffee houses closed during the pandemic. The purpose of this project is to spread love and give back to a neighborhood that has given me so much.”

Standout breakfast sandwiches include The Bestie with hardwood smoked bacon (pork or turkey), organic soft scrambled eggs, smoked cheddar cheese and chipotle ketchup, served on a soft, slightly sweet butter bread ($8); Stop Beefin’ with beyond meat, roasted peppers, spicy mashed avocado and sriracha-maple aioli, served on a buttered, toasted brioche bun ($10); Easy Like Sunday with Logan’s turkey sausage, organic soft scrambled eggs, smoked cheddar cheese and honey mustard aioli, served on a soft, slightly sweet butter bread ($8); Feels Like Home with buttermilk brined fried chicken, organic over-medium egg, caramelized onions, Gordy’s pickles, smoked cheddar cheese and sriracha mayo, served on a buttered, toasted brioche bun ($9); Staycation with organic soft scrambled eggs, smoked cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, avocado and sriracha mayo, served on a soft, slightly sweet butter bread ($7); The Good Day with ground angus beef, organic over-medium egg, caramelized onions, Gordy’s pickles, smoked cheddar cheese and dijonaise, served on a buttered, toasted brioche bun ($10); Cuz It’s Still a Salad with homemade organic egg salad topped with soft scrambled eggs, honey mustard aioli and dressed arugula, served on a soft, slightly sweet butter bread ($7), and the Just Like Luisa, named after Michelle Andrade’s mother, the sandwich is made from a combination of linguica smoke-cured pork sausage seasoned with garlic and paprika, scramble-omelet egg with chives and smoked cheddar cheese ($9).

Patrons can quench their thirst with classic beverages, such as Orange, Pineapple, Cranberry and Peach Mimosas ($5); Bloody Mary with house-made bloody mix and Gordy’s pickle juice ($6) as well as non-alcoholic options such as Tea Time with Rockin’ Moroccan loose leaf green tea by Calabash Tea & Tonic ($4) and single-origin, farm-to-cup coffee ($3) from Büna Coffeehouse in Washington, D.C. and Southeastern Roastery in Riverdale Park, Maryland.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
