From the Mayor’s Office:

“The #SportsCapital is having a rally to celebrate the Washington Mystics 2019 WNBA Championship! The Washington Mystics celebration rally, presented by Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Events DC, is scheduled for Friday, October 11 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Congress Heights.

“Our Washington Mystics ran it back and brought it home! Each and every game this year, we witnessed a team of world-class athletes make history,” said Mayor Bowser. “We witnessed greatness on and off the court – perseverance and dedication to each other, to the game, to the fans, and to DC. Closing out this first season at the Entertainment and Sports Arena with a championship – that is the ending to this record-setting season that the team, the fans, and Ward 8 deserved. Together, DC, let’s get ready to celebrate our 2019 world champions!”

After completing their best year in franchise history, Washington, DC fans stand together in all red to support the Mystics on winning their first WNBA championship!

“As the official convention and sports authority for Washington, DC, Events DC is thrilled to celebrate and applaud the Washington Mystics as the 2019 WNBA Champions. We are so proud of the effort, tenacity and determination that these women displayed all season long, capturing their first-ever WNBA title for DC,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, president and chief executive officer of Events DC. “This was a historic season for the Mystics, that included their brand new home court at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in an underserved neighborhood of DC. As the venue operator, we look forward to providing the Mystics and their fans with a world-class home court and memorable experience for years to come at their home arena. This accomplishment is just another reminder that DC is no longer just the nation’s capital – but a premier sports capital! Congratulations to our great partners at the Monumental Sports & Entertainment and thanks to Mayor Bowser for her vision and support in building this new Arena for all of DC to enjoy.”
