“Romain died Wednesday morning driving to work on Kansas Avenue NW”

“Dear PoPville,

The motorcyclist that died in this crash was Romain Picou. Romain died Wednesday morning driving to work on Kansas Avenue NW, when a car turning left from Madison entered the one lane road and Romain’s lane. Romain hit the passenger door and was thrown off of his motorcycle. The driver of the vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Romain died from his.

Romain was my friend and a brother. I simply don’t have the words to convey the character, class, and charisma he carried with him everywhere he went. His light was snuffed too soon and while it breaks my heart, I am honored to have known him.

I’m not religious, so death has always been difficult to process from that perspective. I like to think to the book/movie Cloud Atlas in times like this, which follows 6 story-lines across 6 timelines. Over the course of the story you come to realize that each timeline is interconnected and the characters, reincarnations of their past self’s, always seem to find each other.

All this to say, while we have lost Romain in this story-line I hold out hope that the bond we shared was strong enough that I will find him again in the next.

In remembrance of Romain, I’d like to ask everyone reading to take a moment to reflect on your relationships. Hug your friends. Call your mother. Reach out and reconnect.

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
