El Rey “taqueria and beer garden” opening a 2nd location in Ballston this Fall

919 U Street, NW

From an email:

“Writing to let you know that D.C.’s favorite taqueria and beer garden is expanding this fall with the launch of El Rey Ballston. Hospitality entrepreneurs and brothers Eric and Ian Hilton are opening the second El Rey in the heart of Arlington, VA at the rapidly-expanding Ballston Exchange development (4201 Wilson Blvd) near other culinary favorites like Shake Shack, Cava, Philz Coffee, DIRT and We, the Pizza.

In addition to its signature selection of mouthwatering tacos — like al pastor, Thai shrimp, and adobo chicken — cocktails, margaritas and sangria, the new 5,000-square-foot El Rey will feature plenty of beers on draft.

“Heading into Virginia is something that’s been on our radar for a while,” says Ian, “and we’re thrilled to be in Ballston, one of Arlington’s busiest areas. The new El Rey will, of course, have plenty of the flavor of our original on U Street, but will also definitely take on its own vibe in VA.”

Situated in the Rosslyn-Ballston Corridor, Ballston Exchange is one of Arlington, VA’s newest mixed-use projects, reimagining the area’s streetscape by introducing a variety of retail, commercial, and public open spaces to support the thriving neighborhood. Offering over 776,000 square feet of new storefronts, restaurants, office space, and amenities, Ballston Exchange boasts access to the Metro and attractive features including full-service conference facilities, concierge services and outdoor spaces. El Rey Ballston marks the latest in an influx of new lifestyle offerings being introduced to the quickly evolving Arlington neighborhood.

El Rey Ballston is scheduled to open this fall.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
