“Earlier this afternoon members of the Fifth District responded to a call for service for sounds of gunshots in the 1800 Block of Benning Rd NE. Officers arrived on scene and located two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The first victim was pronounced on the scene. The second victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. MPD’s Violent Crimes Branch will handling the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this offense are encouraged to contact MPD at 202-727-9099 or via text at 50411.”
A reader reports:
“I just got delayed almost an hour trying to leave this area. Those trying to get in or out of the city on Benning road are mad stuck (plus school buses). Surrounding streets are all gridlocked. It looks like a homicide given the crime scene police, tapes and tent. It could take a while for this to clear out. If you take this way home, you might want to try an alternate route.”
