Your Afternoon Animal Fix – AdoPtville

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Have you ever met a perpetually happy, optimistic, glass is half full type of person? Well JoAnn is the canine version of that! She could not contain her joy when she took her freedom ride – via airplane thanks to some generous Pilots n Paws pilots – and arrived in DC last week full of hope for the future. This beautiful girl is a MinPin mix, weighing in at 17 lbs and about one year old. She is still very much a puppy with a playful nature and energy to match. She loves to play and go for runs, and promises to get you fit or keep you on track with your fitness goals. With enough exercise and play, she transforms into a cuddly lap dog who will snuggle with you as she snoozes. Totally portable, JoAnn would love to go on life’s adventures with you and promises a life full of loyalty and love. She is great with other dogs and gentle children, and can be cat tested if her potential forever family includes a feline. Could JoAnn’s forever home be with you? ¯…There was catnip in the air that night, your eyes so bright, Purrnando… ¯OK, sorry for the earworm, but come ON. Purrnando is an awesome name, for an even more awesome cat! Purrnando is a brand new arrival to our friends at 4Paws Rescue! This handsome tuxedo wearing gentleman is 10 years young! He has earned his name, being quick to purr up a storm and offer up headbutts. Purrnando was recently transferred to 4Paws from a WV-based rescue organization so that he would have a better opportunity of finding a good home. He originally lost his home when his previous family decided to downsize. He is a healthy and robust boy who loves to be picked up and held and easily gets along with other cats. If you would like to foster or adopt Purrnando, email [email protected], and also ¯I can’t wait to bring you home with me, my new kitty, Purrnando ¯ (HINT HINT)

Ed. Note: Also note from HRA “Adoption fees waived this weekend (June 30 and July 1)”

The Humane Rescue Alliance announced today that the organization’s two adoption centers and foster homes have an overabundance of dogs and cats of all ages available for adoption. Due to urgent assistance needed by another shelter and a recent Humane Law Enforcement seizure, both adoption centers are at capacity. In an effort to encourage those who have been thinking about pet adoption to visit HRA adoption centers this weekend, the organization will waive adoption fees Saturday and Sunday only.

“We are in need of adoptive homes so we can continue to provide refuge to the dozens of animals in need who come through our doors each and every day,” said Becca Stern, HRA’s Director of Adoptions. “We have more than 240 animals waiting in our adoption centers and foster homes, ready to go home with their new families, and we encourage people to come and meet them. They get a new home, and the next animal through our door gets their well-deserved chance at adoption too.”

Those interested in adopting a dog or cat this weekend should visit one of HRA’s two adoption centers: 71 Oglethorpe, NW and 1201 New York Avenue, NE. Pets available for adoption from HRA have been spayed or neutered and microchipped.”
