FRIDAY, JUNE 1

DRANK…The American craft beer festival, Savor, is in town this weekend. Stop by the National Building Museum to sample beers from 90 independent breweries across the country. Bonus: There will be snacks paired with each brew, so save room for pork belly, grilled cheese, chicken tagine, charcuterie plates…the list goes on.

THE BARD… Ever wondered how Shakespearean actors ever figure out all that old English? Learn the tricks of the trade at tonight’s behind-the-scenes talk with three Folger Theatre actors. They’ll let you know how they approach the complicated sentences, and the best ways to understand WTF is going on when you watch the Bard’s work.

PRIDE…Even though Capital Pride doesn’t start till next week, kick start the celebrations at tonight’s Museum of African Art event. You’ll get special access to Nairobi-based artist Jim Chuchu’s exhibits, which look at his process of defining his sexuality as an African gay man. A photo booth, a DJ, and food and drinks round out the night.

SATURDAY, JUNE 2

CAPS…Oh, yeah, the hockey thing. If you can get your hands on a ticket, go check out our hometown Capitals take on the Vegas Knights IRL for game three. If you don’t want to cough up that kind of dough (don’t blame you…) the Wharf is hosting a viewing party. Come watch the Caps do their thing on a big outdoor screen, and grab some food and drinks at all the many places nearby.

RFK…The 50th anniversary of Senator Robert Kennedy’s death is next week, and there will be a walking tour commemorating his life today. Meet on the Capitol grounds before walking through many of the sites Bobby frequented while in D.C.. The tour will end at RFK’s grave in Arlington Cemetery, and you’ll listen to the famous speech he made announcing MLK, Jr.’s death.

TRAILS AND ALES…Outdoorsy imbibers, this is for you. Meet a group for a four-mile hike through Sky Meadows State Park, after which you’ll swing by Mt. Defiance Cidery and Distillery for a cider sampling. End the night at Quattro Goomba’s Winery for beer flights, live music, pizza, wine tastings, and maybe even a wine slushie or two.

WINE DOWN…Another weekend, another wine festival. Over 20 Virginia wineries will be at the Vintage Virginia Wine & Food Festival for an all-you-can-sip shindig. In between the drinking, check out the food trucks, live music, and kid’s zone.

BZZ…Quite literally learn to mind your own beeswax at the Bee Festival. Hosted by the Takoma Park Farmers Market, you’ll learn the ins-and-outs of managing your own hive via interactive displays and a local beekeepers association. Stick around to taste some honey and have your face painted.

OM NOM NOMNew Kitchens on the Block is an annual event showcasing the most anticipated restaurants opening soon in D.C. Come to Mess Hall to sample food from all the new spots before your foodie friends start talking about them. There’ll be bites from the Timber Pizza Co.’s forthcoming Call Your Mother and the Jack Rose Team’s the Imperial, plus One Eight Distilling and Green Hat cocktails.

ONE WAY TO PERU…No need for a passport. Travel to Peru via stomach at the sixth annual Taste of Peru. Between the Peruvian cooking demonstrations, you can take in folklore performances and a salsa band, not to mention burn off all the snacking at a zumba class.

HIT THE BARRE…To celebrate its fifth studio opening in Navy Yard this summer, barre3 will host a free class this morning at Yards Park. Lift and tone your way to those #summergoals, but don’t forget to treat yo’self with brunch afterwards.
