Great Shoals Winery opening a Tasting Room in Takoma Park?

In other cider (and wine) news…

“Dear PoPville,

Last night I noticed a sign on the door of a former flower shop at 7050 Carroll Ave. in Takoma Park–liquor licence pending for “Great Shoals,” which looks to be a local winery with a tasting room in far-north Silver Spring. Very exciting if Takoma Park is getting a tasting room!”

Their Facebook story says:

“Great Shoals Winery began as a simple idea one cold December morning in 2009, inspired by a cup of early morning coffee while gazing across the open water of the Wicomico River. One year later, the winery was licensed to produce in a small facility not far from Great Shoals Light in the bayside community of Mount Vernon, MD. Our first product release in March of 2011, Spencerville Red Hard Apple, earned Gold and Best in Class Hard Cider at that year’s Maryland Governor’s Cup wine competition. We’ve since produced and released more than twenty unique hard ciders and wines, which continue to win awards at state and regional competitions. In June of 2013, Great Shoals established its tasting room as Heyser’s Market on New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring, MD. Our humble beginning continues to unfold with the help of family, friends, and dedicated staff, as well as with the generous support of our customers. In the summer of 2013 Great Shoals opened a tasting room in Heyser Farms, a family farm and market in Colesville, Maryland, where many of the fruits used in our hard ciders and wines have been grown since our first bottles of cider. Heyser Farms provides a great atmosphere and for our new tasting room with their quaint sense of community as many of their patrons and workers know each other by name. Our tasting room at Heyser Farms 14526 New Hampshire Ave Silver Spring, MD 20904”
