“Join Washington Parks & People on Saturday, April 21st in the lighting of over 2000 luminarie bags in honor of the 8,248 African Americans buried in what is now Walter Pierce Park after they gained their freedom during the Civil War. This is a beautiful ceremony honoring, remembering, and celebrating these lives. The candles will be lit at dusk. Volunteers are greatly needed to help setup starting at 9am.
