From a press release:
“The Parks at Walter Reed will host a new Holiday Reflection & Tree Lighting event, bringing the community together on Saturday, November 18, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to remember the history of the campus and ring in the Winter season.
This inaugural celebration event will feature seasonal music sung by The Marquees, commemorative ribbon decorating, festive snacks and the lighting of a 20-foot holiday tree. The evening celebrates the rich history of the Walter Reed Campus, while looking forward to the future of the new development. People with close ties to the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center will join us to share stories from their time onsite, and holiday traditions they enjoyed.
The Parks at Walter Reed invites neighbors and friends to join – everyone is welcome! Limited seating will be available, but attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets to enjoy the evening.
Parking is available on campus, but space is limited. Attendees are encouraged to either walk or utilize ride-sharing services available in DC.
Holiday Reflection & Tree Lighting joins Jazz in The Parks and Fitness in the Parks as the third of many events being planned to activate the site before redevelopment begins. Future events are expected to include movies on the Great Lawn, a farmer’s market, Easter egg roll (a former tradition at Walter Reed), art and historic place making and more.
Please note that The Parks at Walter Reed is an active construction site – we encourage attendees to always keep safety top of mind and be aware while walking and driving around the site.”
