Old Church Conversion at 12 & Q St, NW Nearly Finished

“Dear PoPville,

I haven’t seen a post about the old church at 12 & Q St NW in over a year, but it looks like work is almost finished on it! It looks to be created in the form of a restaurant, and there’s a huge patio on the other side spanning the distance from the building to the alley next to the Watermelon House. The first picture is from a couple weeks ago, but the other two are from yesterday. That yellow placard in the Q St side window is a stop work order, but I couldn’t get close enough to read why, nor could I find any other placards about what who might be moving in.”

Looks like a pretty nice place to give Jesus a try.

So happy to see this! I used to go by it every day and the church that owned it obviously couldn’t/wouldn’t spend the money on its upkeep Looks like it was bought and rescued from the Lord’s hand.

I’ve been poking around and it looks like there’s a stop work order in the north-facing window. There’s a weird kitchen installation with cabinets in that downstairs front unit there, so hopefully it’s just temporary – it seems like it would be really odd if that front unit is just residential considering how commercial the build out appears to be. The space would be nice for a small bar/cafe or a convenience store!

It must be a cafe – it wouldn’t make sense otherwise. They’ve got a huge patio on the side opposite the building that I can’t wait to sit out on. Try as I might, though, I couldn’t find any ABRA or other placards with any indication on who’s moving in. With my luck, though, it’d be some sort of Applebees.

7-11 would make for a perfect tenant, no?

This would actually be very handy!

pretty sure the yellow sticker is a vacant property notice not a stop work…Stop works I believe are orange

Yup. Orange is stop work order, yellow is just vacant.

Just walked by it again. Definitely a stop work order.

I live nearby and have asked various construction workers what is going in there. They said residential – 1/2 bedroom condos – it seems to me also that the main lower level must be food/retail given the windows and double-doors, but they didn’t know.
