Full press release:

“The longest continuously running neighborhood festival in the nation’s capital invites residents and neighbors from across the District and beyond to experience its renowned eclectic culture, creativity, diversity, restaurants and shops of the historic neighborhood. The 2017 Adams Morgan Day celebration will take place Sunday, Sept. 10, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., and will open with a dog parade along two blocks of 18th Street. For the first time in three years, 18th Street will be partly closed for the day to increase vending, live music and entertainment for all ages. Businesses, restaurants, and non-profits will participate along Columbia Road NW and 18th Street NW.

Adams Morgan Day began as a mega-block party in the late 1970s and grew in the 90’s to a massive festival with up to 300,000 visitors. Since 2015, long-time and new community-minded residents and business owners “reset” the annual event, creating a more local-grown festival that highlights the unique and historic neighborhood of Adams Morgan, its ethnic roots, its diverse community, and its variety of pubs, international restaurants and shops. The revamped Adams Morgan Day showcases the lively beat of the eclectic community, and strengthens community ties and economic development. Many visitors return year-after-year to visit old haunts and see what’s new in one of their favorite neighborhoods in the District.

Adams Morgan’s popular array of international restaurants, coffee shops and pubs will offer specials. Planning is underway for two stages filled with live music and entertainment, curated visual artists, and local makers to display and vend their works as part of the street fair. Information and services from local non-profits and community organizations will be available, and the all-volunteer planning committee will work with District officials to ensure a fun and safe event for all.

To volunteer, sponsor, donate, log activities planned at a business, and find updates see AdamsMorganDay2017.com. Follow us at Facebook.com/AdamsMorganDay/ and @AdamsMorganDay #AdMoDay. Registration will soon open for vendors and participants for the opening dog parade. The neighborhood festival is made possible by hundreds of volunteer hours, in-kind services and funds provided by committed Adams Morgan residents and businesses, individual donors and sponsors. The organizers put a high priority on fiscal transparency. Funds, sponsors and volunteers are needed. An informational happy hour will be held at Johnny Pistolas Mexican Taqueria Bar on June 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Register for free tickets to the happy hour at AdamsMorganDay2017.com.”
