Pablo writes:

“In the year 1529, father Bobadilla called this place The Gate of Hell and planted a cross to exorcise the devil. According to the legend, the members of the Chorotega tribe used to come here to worship and listen to a witch that lived inside the crater. Today, the Masaya Volcano is one of the main touristic attractions of Nicaragua. Or hell.”

This was full-blown erupting when I was there. Looked hellish enough from afar! Great shots, btw.
