can I ask how these home gardeners keep pests out of their gardens? chicken wire? something else? thanks!

I never had any trouble when container gardening on a first-floor patio, except for cabbage worms on my spring greens. I used Sevin dust on my spring greens to eliminate the worms. For summer gardening (tomatoes, cucumbers, and bell peppers), I did nothing. Chicken wire would work for large pests like squirrels and mice. Moth balls might work well for flying pests (they repel more than moths).
