8th and L Street, SE (just south of Barracks Row)

Checking in on The Brig – it’s gotta be ready by the Spring. Other beer gardens in the works are:

The Midlands (Park View)

TAKODA, sorta, (Shaw)

Boulder/Bolder Beer Garden (Trinidad)

Bardo Riverfront (also Navy Yard – closer to the ballpark)

Possibly one at the former Lux Lounge (in the Squangle)

And beer gardens that we already have:

Dacha (Shaw)

Garden District (U Street)

Wunder Garten (when it warms up again, NoMa)

Sauf Haus Bier Hall (Dupont)

Biergarten Haus (H Street, NE)

Bardo (Trinidad)

Wonderland (Columbia Heights)

DC Reynolds (Petworth)

Bier Baron (Dupont)

Bluejacket (Navy Yard)

Not too mention the other hybrids – overall not too shabby!!

Bier Baron is more of a bier cave than a beer garden, but it’s still WAY better than The “We’re out of that” Brickskeller, so I’ll take it.

    • sproc

No bad mouthing the Brickskeller! They used to serve me no-questions-asked as a 19 year old college student, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Even if you had to ask a few times to find something in stock, it was well worth it.

      • I think my personal record there was 6 beers in a row out of stock before I finally said “just get me something exceptional down in the cellar, I don’t care what it is” and was brought back a can of Old Chub. That was the last time I ever went.

        • sproc

No argument, it was not as endearing in my 30s.

And if you’d never spotted a rodent while you were there, you were never really there.

Can you really call Bluejacket a biergardent? Isn’t it more a brew pub with a few outdoor tables?

    • It’s a stretch – I give it hybrid status with the picnic tables out front.

  • Adam on Hanover

Isn’t WunderGarten kaput for good at this point? I thought I’d read that the developer plans to break ground on that lot this spring?

    • They told me they were coming back in the spring.

    • pjl35

Yeah, that lot next to the metro will begin construction at some point this spring I think. My understanding is that Wundergarten will still exist, but they’ll relocate to some other space in NoMa.

Here’s the article – last paragraph particularly relevant. “The DOJ will move into the vacant, 350k SF Three Constitution Square in late 2016 and into the build-to-suit, 475k SF Four Constitution Square at 150 M St NE when construction wraps up in 2018.”

What about the place that was coming to 1322 9th Street, Naylor Stables? It should be beer garden-y. Is that still happening?

  • Tim

This list doesn’t say “Beer Gardens” to me. It says “Dan needs a beer or sunshine wherever he can get it.”

    • I can not deny liking beer and the sun and especially the beer and the sun at the same time. Guilty as charged!

  • Anonymous

I always thought that a “beer garden” was more than just “a place where you can drink a beer outside.”

  • DD

Wasn’t Dacha supposed to open another location?

    • Q-Street

They couldn’t come to terms with the landlord down in Mt. Vernon, so they decided to break their settlement agreement in Shaw and expand there instead. They did a whole smear campaign to go with it. Really great guys.

Yeah…this is just about enough winter for me. Beer garden season can’t come soon enough!
