This is a nice gesture. However, refugees are not usually resettled directly into Washington DC because it is too expensive. More in Virginia and Maryland. There are many asylum seekers from a wide variety of countries in Washington DC though – people who (mostly) arrived on a visa of some sort, feel they cannot safely return home, and are seeking refugee status as a result. Resettled refugees can legally work and asylum seekers can’t legally work for six months which means they have a hard time making ends meet unless they have a good support network to assist them.

    Very kind.
