Above: “All the garden haul pictures are making me feel bad about the meager and not very tasty haul I got from our strawberry bushes. So here is our haul of the day.”

Below: “Eggplant, Rosemary, Sweet Banana Peppers, Serrano, Jalapeno, & Thai chili peppers. Grown in my backyard in Petworth.”

How do you keep the squirrels from eating the eggplant!? They have devoured every last one that I grew this year.

      Luck and no trees

Mothballs placed just below the surface of the soil will prevent squirrels from digging up your plants/flowers, though I’m not sure if the odor will deter them from eating fruit above the ground.

  • It’s just me

At least you got something. All of my veggies (tomatoes, green and red bell peppers, and zucchini) grew like crazy, but didn’t produce a thing. Then I went out of town last week and forgot to ask someone to water them and they all died. Which I guess is no loss since they weren’t producing. At least my basil seems to be regenerating. Sigh.

Hmm that seems unusual – sometimes you need to snip or pluck early growths to encourage production but since it is all your plants that may speak to a pollination issue
