this place is dc’s best kept secret. such a shame that not too many people have been there. it’s amazing. you feel like you’re far far away from dc when there. hidden gem.

Are these recent pictures? I’ve always wanted to go when they are in bloom! Anyone know if they are/how long they last?

They bloom in July. Here, their website: http://www.nps.gov/keaq/index.htm

Also make sure you go when it is cool (ie mornings). The lotus bloom will close when it gets hot.

Yes, they’re from yesterday! Lots of buds still, so I’d expect there’d be even more blossoms in a week or two. The Lotus & Water Lily Festival isn’t until July 19th so I think they’d be around until at least then. The flowers close when it gets hot (high 80’s) so go early if it’s going to be a hot day.

  • Yes, the lotus and lilies are in bloom July through the first week of August. Mornings are the best time to visit since many flowers close in the mid-afternoon heat. Please also visit for the July 19 Water Lily and Lotus Cultural Festival – dance, music, art, food trucks, and exhibits! Don’t miss this hidden gem.
