Thanks to a reader for sending:

“The new location of Mediterranean Spot on 18th St in Adams Morgan opened last night. We stopped in to check on the owner this evening and the place looks beautiful! They are going to have outdoor seating and pizza at this location.”

The Adams Morgan location is in the former Carribou Coffee/Uptowner Cafe space at 2421 18th St, NW.

The OP adds: “We went back at 10pm last night and I tried the pizza with chicken shawarma on top – it was delicious.”

A couple of weeks ago we learned their 15th and U St, NW location would be applying for a liquor license, sidewalk seating and adding brick oven pizzas.

That pizza picture has me drooling at my desk. What do you say, PoPville – worth checking out? Who has been there?

They opened at 10pm last night, so likely not that many have been yet :)

I was inquiring more on the U St location – I figured a few people have been there by now, but I have not…

Hi! I’m the one who had that pizza pictured above. It was really delicious – the dough was thick and chewy so it’s a nice break from all the thin Neapolitan style pizzas if you’re looking for something more substantial. I got a small and could only finish half of it last night. They have a “Mediterranean” pizza on the menu which I think has chicken shawarma, beef shawarma and gyro meat on top – sounds like that would be pretty amazing too. I’ve been a loyal customer of their 15th & U location since it opened. The owners are extremely hardworking (husband and wife team, and one of them is always there 24hrs a day – I don’t know how they do it, especially now with two locations) and take a lot of pride in the quality of their food. I really hope they succeed at the new location, they certainly have worked hard for it.

Awesome – thanks for the feedback! Based on that photo and your recommendation I’ll have to check this place out.

No problem! FYI, they don’t have the pizza oven up and running at the U St. location yet so if you want the pizza go to 18th St. But their chicken shawarma is out of this world all on its own, and you can get that at U St anytime.

    yeah that looks good….

I hope they do well here, that specific corner location on 18th st seems to be the kiss of death for anyone trying to open a business there.

For years, I’ve heard rumors that a lack of available kitchen ventilation has kept restaurants out of this space. If that’s the case, how are they going to bake pizzas here? You definitely need ventilation for that.

I had heard the same thing. If they try to bake pizzas in there without an exhaust system of some kind, it won’t be too pleasant.

I stopped by for lunch today, and they were not open.

The owner mentioned last night that she was going to close for a few hours this morning but she wasn’t sure what time. I’m sure they’ll be open for dinner service again tonight.
