You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

Thanks for the reminder on my taxes.

Rant: ended up owing $3 to the IRS after years of bountiful refunds. Hello Sequester.

  • Revel (or Rant, depending on how you will take this): I heard the first Brood II cicadas this afternoon in Rock Creek Park.

    Rant: Tourists
Rave: Tourists infusing valuable dollars into our city’s economy
Rant: Taxi drivers talking to cell phones ignoring everybody around them and providing too many close calls for bikers
Rave: It’s so nice out I can bike everywhere!!!

Does anyone know what happened at the Southwest Waterfront Saturday night? Report of a bomb threat and police closed off roads for about an hour

  • I’m sure some of you also received the dreaded letter after submitting DC taxes in the mail asking me to:

“Please verify that your Social Security number is valid: Send written confirmation from the Social Security Administration verifying your Social Security number. A copy of a Social Security card is not sufficient.” along with line 2 of my 2011 DC tax return.

I haven’t had the time to take off work to go to the SSA but hope I’ll be able to squeeze it in during lunch sometime this week.

Does anyone know 1) A better way to get this verification other than to go to the SSA and 2) If I’ll be penalized if I don’t get this verification in by today, 04/15?

I THINK I’m okay since I submitted my tax forms obviously before today, but who knows. Any advice would be great.

This has been a huge pain in my butt.
