You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

Rant: both Flying fish and Beau Thai on Mt P were graffiti’d last night.

Rant: Evil shipyards that overcharge for poor work. Don’t go there!

  • Rant: Such insomnia last night. BTW watching Eddie Izzard stand up is a super bad idea when one wakes up at 3am and cannot go back to sleep. Live and learn.

Rave: Sister & her kids were in DC for sight-seeing & called and woke me up for brunch. We had a great time at Open City!

Rant: Have been ridiculously swamped at work and haven’t read PoP in over a month. Not ok.

Rave: Gave my sort of notice at job on Thursday. Not right fit for me. Going out on own.

Rant/Rave? I have a low tolerance for “this is bullshit!” in terms of sticking around at a job that isn’t the right fit. Constantly pursuing happiness instead of sticking at something that isn’t good for my emotional and physical health. Resume doesn’t look so good with this theory, but certainly feel better mentally. Thinking that consulting on my own is the best choice for me. What I really want is to become a mom.

Rant: Something bad happened in front of the Chipotle in Columbia Heights. The whole block is closed with police tape up. Looked like a lot of blood on the sidewalk. Stabbing or shooting in broad daylight? Traffic is a mess.

stabbing in chipotle. A friend who lives in an apt right above sent me a photo of the sidewalk covered in blood. Just another saturday in Columbia Heights I guess.

    • Seems like it was a stabbing, unfortunately.

Rave: The My Taxi app that is advertising here on PoP is pretty cool. It actually works! And way better than trying to call for a cab.

Rave: That’s my kid! (i’ve been away from home for a couple days for work and so this was particularly delightful for me to see this morning…)

      thats awesome!!!

  • RANT–Our daughter’s stroller was taken from in front of our house on Holmead Place on Sunday between 1 and 2:30 PM. If anyone comes across a Maclaren umbrella stroller (limited edition navy blue with green, red and plaid tartan seat, with navy canopy, and a JL Childress black mesh organizer on the handles) with her lavender puffer coat in the bottom, please email me or reply back. We are offering a reward, and are hoping this was an accident. I really don’t want to think that neighbors would steal a stroller…

Oh, but they would. They did. And then your stuff got sold within the hour at some sidewalk rummage sale outside of a storefront “church”.

Just like they got my kid’s little red wagon a couple years ago. Still bitter.

I would imagine that a stroller, while not as attractive for theft as a bicycle, is the kind of thing you shouldn’t leave on your porch unless it’s chained to something. (And maybe not even then.)

Even if your neighbors aren’t thieves, there’s no accounting for people passing through the area who aren’t neighbors.

Yeah, I don’t know where you live but here in Capitol Hill everyone brings their strollers inside or locks them up. Given all the weird things I’ve had stolen from my yard (a chair cushion, my front gate) I’ve learned you have to put a lock on everything you possibly can.
