From a press release:

Douglas Development announced that it has purchased a new mixed-use property in Chinatown DC, located at 700 5th St., NW, behind the Verizon Center. The 10,000 SF building includes 3 levels of office space and 4,000 SF of street level retail.

Douglas Development purchased this property from the DC-based law firm, Wingfield & Ginsburg, PC. The law firm has since leased back all of the office space from Douglas Development.

Burger King is located currently on the ground floor, but will relocate once its lease expires in early 2014. Douglas Development is in the process of selecting a new retailer to add to its portfolio of trendy Chinatown restaurants that include Graffiato, Sixth Engine, Legal Sea Foods, Matchbox, District of Pi, and new restaurants, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill and NoPa Kitchen + Bar, opening later this year.

Another one of the last vestiges of pre-gentrification Chinatown bites the dust.

Outstanding! Maybe this will help some of my co-workers at the GAO drop a couple pounds.

Hoping you aren’t referring to me BB….

As much as a loathe another trendy restaurant, I hope whatever does go in cuts down on loitering around that corner. Lots of homeless there. Several who occasionally make inappropriate comments to passing women.

It’s Burger King, not Kash 4 Kardboard.

  • Boom

This is disturbing. Where an i going to get my BK smoothies from now?

Those aren’t smoothies, they are frozen chemical cocktails…

And Spike’s whimsical reimagining of classic Chinese-American carryouts, “The Hunan Centipede.”

      • amm

        Haha! :)

  • Well damn. Where am I going to find a burger in DC now??

    • Anonymous

I heard BK just signed a lease in Dupont on Connecticut Ave. Lots of opportunity!

  • Anonymous

So if I understand this correctly, judging from that list of restaurants, “trendy” means “mediocre” in developer speak.

  • bb

    Good riddance.

If you can’t pay at least 10 bucks for your lunch, you can’t eat in gentrified DC.

  • How can they squeeze in 4,000 sq ft on the ground floor, yet only get 6,000 sq ft in the three floors above? I get that the top floor is a bit smaller, but the other two look about the same size.
