Props to the Cops – Arrest Made in the Homicide of Gabriela Jose Lopez-Hernandez

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the fatal stabbing of Gabriela Jose Lopez-Hernandez.

On Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at approximately 5:50 pm, units from the Third District responded to the 1900 block of Columbia Road, NW to investigate the report of a female who had not been seen or heard from in several days. Upon their arrival, they observed a female suffering from multiple lacerations to her body. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and determined that the victim had no signs consistent with life. Subsequently, the victim was pronounced dead by a member of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent was identified as 29 year-old Gabriela Jose Lopez-Hernandez of Northwest, DC.

On Friday, September 30, 2011, at approximately 8:55 am, 46-year-old Blanca Emilee Ortiz of Argentina, was arrested and charged with Murder One While Armed pursuant to an arrest warrant, in Argentina by members of Interpol. She was subsequently transported to Washington D.C. where she was turned over to members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
