“Tomatoes coming in nicely. From my 16th st heights backyard. For perspective, this plant is 4.5 feet tall. Now if I can keep the squirrels away I will be all set.”

Looks great!

So this reminds me of a question I’ve been meaning to ask – do the different types of tomatoes taste differently? I usually add balsamic vinegar and salt so I don’t have the most refined taste. And what’s the deal with heirloom tomatoes – do they taste differently as well?

If your garden has been kind to you, send a couple of photos with your neighborhood to princeofpetworth(at)gmail with Fruits (and Vegetables) of Your Labors in the subject line.

This one’s a bit obscured by trees but I was digging the distressed paint:

I was also digging this great big window with the plantation (I think) shutters:

“Dear PoP,

Have you posted anything about the new Ping Pong location opening up in Dupont Circle at the corner of New Hampshire and O Street (near 20th St)? It looks great! Was wondering when it will open.”

We learned that Ping Pong Dim Sum would be opening a second location back in Nov. ’10. After a few delays and a major build out they are no on target for a “mid-August” opening (according to a phone call with their Chinatown location).

They will be located in the old Fed Ex space at 1 Dupont Circle NW.

You can see their menu here.

Ping Pong Dim Sum’s first DC location opened at 900 7th Street, NW in Chinatown back in Dec. ’09.

“Dear PoP,

So I live on the 1400 block of Euclid St, NW and have recently seen some construction at a vacant lot very close to my house. Workers are currently putting up a small fence around the lot but there is also a large bulldozer in the lot. I’m wondering if you could shed some light on what is going in there. When we moved in it was rumored that a community garden would be put in there.”

Back in Oct. ’09 we first learned of a new park to be called Justice Park would occupy this plot. In Dec. ’09 we learned that funding had been restored for this park. Then…nothing.

Glad to see construction finally started.

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“This is Boomer from U Street. He’s a Hemingway kitty, which explains the giant paws and opposable thumbs. He is made of magic and fairy dust and is super excited to be celebrating his mom’s 30th birthday.”

“I am afraid the picture that appeared of her gave people the wrong impression.

Zoey is a sweet dog and this picture better represents her personality (AND proves she has eyeballs).

We live in NoMa.”

This rental is located at 11th and U St, NW:

The Craigslist ad says:

“For rent: Sunny two-bedroom apartment in the heart of U Street neighborhood. $2300/month. Starting late August or September 1.

The apartment: It’s on the top floor and faces east, so it gets tons of natural light. Large living room, a nice kitchen with gas stove and dishwasher, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a balcony. There’s a washing machine and dryer in the unit, a front desk and a small fitness center in the building, and the building is very pet-friendly. (The brightly-colored walls in the pictures below could be returned to white before you move in.)

The neighborhood: The apartment is in the Lincoln building (11th & U), less than two blocks from the metro, a block from delicious Ethiopian food and much of U Street’s restaurants and nightlife. It’s lively, but safe. We (the current tenants) LOVE the apartment and the neighborhood, and are leaving it only because we’re moving out of town.”

$2300 sound right for this 2 bed?

“Dear PoPville,

The CD player just crapped out in my car so I’m interested in having a new one installed at Best Buy. I’m wondering if any readers have had car stereos installed at the Columbia Heights Best Buy. I’m specifically wondering about the Geek Squad car stereo service at Columbia Heights (or Tenleytown if anyone’s had a stereo installed there). I already know what the store itself is like.

I thought maybe I’m not the only person that was surprised to find that they do installations in the garage below DC USA. I couldn’t find any online reviews about Geek Squad installing stereos at the Columbia Heights (or Tenleytown) Best Buys.”

A reader writes in with a very important summer question – “where to play miniature golf in the DC/VA/MD area”? I can’t believe I haven’t asked this question yet. Besides H Street Country Club where are some other good spots to play mini golf?

And for my own curiosity for those that go to the Delaware/Maryland Beaches – where’s the best one out there as well?
