From Feb. ’11

“Dear PoP,

Got an email from the Logan Lofts people that they’re now renting the units. I guess sales never worked out. These were priced really high from what I remember. You covered the construction here.

Their email gives the following rents, which again, I think are a little high for that neighborhood.

UNIT #1 2BR/2BA $3,100/month
UNIT #2 2BR/2BA $3,250/month
UNIT #3 2BR/2BA $3,350/month
UNIT #4 2BR/2BA $3,450/month”

Logan Lofts is located at 1503 11th St, NW. You can see a virtual tour here. Think those rental prices are realistic?

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“Goldie in the sink from Petworth”

“Name: Atticus Finch (he does this every single morning)
Neighborhood: Shaw”

The Craigslist ad says:

“Don’t miss out on this unique space! Two levels of living – spacious living room and kitchen downstairs, and huge master bedroom with a full bath, walk-in closet and washer/dryer upstairs. Unit gets a ton of light because it’s the entire front of the house!

The apartment is located on a quiet street 1 block from Safeway, and 3 blocks from the Metro, Harris Teeter, and restaurants. It’s a quick walk to Eastern Market/Barracks Row and Lincoln Park, too. You’ll love this apartment, so come by and take a look! Available starting September 1.

Water is included in rent.”

The owner writes:

“We are raising the rent a bit, and I’d be interested if the commentariat thought it was too much. I feel like there aren’t a lot of 2 story 1 BR in the city, and it’s definitely rare among the english basements on the Hill.”

What do you guys think – $1600 sound right?

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have a good solution for discouraging flies & mosquitoes from hanging around in basement entrances? I think they like the cool & dark down there, and so have been especially bad this summer. I power-wash the walls fairly often, keep the drain clear and practice good mosquito-prevention in the yard (no standing water etc.) I hang strips of fly-paper, but there are still lots of them.

I’ve checked out some zappers online but they seem like overkill. Considered spreading some lime or desiccant, but it’s a small area and an active entrance to the basement apartment. Any ideas?”

We spoke about some general mosquito problems here and here but does anyone have specific advise for basement entrances?

“Dear PoP,

Last night at around 3 AM a drunk driver hit the dumpster in front of 1449 Harvard St NW. The impact moved the dumpster (which weighs several thousand pounds) almost six feet forward, where it then hit the BMW parked in front. The driver was in a black Cadillac Escalade, which had several empty beer cans on the front seat. He left the SUV on the scene and then fled. The police arrived shortly thereafter and are trying to locate the driver.”

That’s insane. And terrifying to think how bad this really could’ve been.

Island Jim’s is located next to Colonel Brooks at 901 Monroe St NE in Brookland. I was surprised to see them open last Friday (I think they close during the winter). Is this a fun place to eat crabs? Any fans?
