Back in July ’11 we learned that the folks behind the proposed Post Office Bistro had pulled their liquor application. It is not clear if that was the result of some neighborhood opposition or not. I just heard some serious scuttlebutt about the space and am very curious to hear what you think.

Back in May ’11 I had heard that the folks behind Cava Mezze Grill were looking to open some more locations in DC (they are currently located in Bethesda, you can see their menu here.) Cava Grill is run by the same folks who own Cave Wine Bar located on Barracks Row at 527 8th St SE. Anyway, I’m hearing that they are looking to open a Cava Grill at the old Post Office building at 1407 T St, NW.

This is purely scuttlebutt right now but I’ll give it a 77% accuracy rating. More info when/if it becomes available.

Any fans of the Cava Grill in Bethesda? Do you think one would work here in Logan Circle/U Street?

UPDATE: CavaGrill Tweets, “sorry, that info is incorrect. We are looking in the District, but not that area.”

I find a distinction between art like this and simply spray painting your name (gang related or not).

From an email:

“Dear PoP,

Walking home from Hill Country yesterday I noticed that the proposed Wagamama spot has a new sign — Wagamama 2012. Do you or any of your readers know if this is for real? The last I heard was that they’d be opening in 2011, but that news barely had any buzz. I love Wagamama but I’m tired of these fakeouts!”

Back in Sept. ’10 we spoke about some of the biggest retail/restaurant teases we’ve experienced. Wagamama was high on the list. There is a whole Facebook page devoted to bringing them to DC. The Internationalist blog says:

“The Internationalist received confirmation today from Wagamama’s Nancy Barrett (U.S. Marketing Director) that the Penn Quarter location WILL open in 2012.”

Of course if you look at the storefront of the old Olson’s bookstore at 418 7th St, NW you can still see a desperate plea from a fan written under the coming soon sign (which used to say 2010):

“When, oh When?”

If you have any fun or interesting animal/pet photos please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say what neighborhood you’re from or upload to the PoPville flickr pool with your pets name and neighborhood. I can’t guarantee I’ll get them all posted but I’ll do my best.

“Gabby, Queen of Petworth.

“Here’s the best picture I’ve been able to get of the elusive, unusually colored pigeon in front of the Logan Circle Whole Foods who a friend from Australia has named “Speckled Jim” (after the feathered “Blackadder” character). Said friend speculates that Speckled Jim is cookies-and-cream flavored.

(Apparently pigeons with this coloration are relatively uncommon but not unheard of.)

Also attached: Previous photographic attempts I made while Speckled Jim dashed under tables and chairs and bicycles to foil me.”

“Charlie and his dragon. Mt. Pleasant.”
