  • Sherlock Homes

How many windows until it is just too many windows?

    • JenDC

+1. Especially as the windows are just downright ugly. That’s hard.

  • CornholioDC

Now if I were rich, this would be it. Cool house.

  • joker

This house takes the cake for the most contemporary house I’ve ever seen in the District.

I was also shocked that it is only listed for ~1.8 million. Then clicked on the redfin link and saw why…forclosure. The house last sold in 2005 for 3.6 million. Guess that proves the foreclosure crisis didn’t pass by the wealthier among us.

It will go for more than ~1.8. Probably in the 2.2-2.5 million range.

    • LE

Me, too. That seems really cheap.

  • ShawShank

Agree with Cornholio – I think this house is awesome and much cooler than a lot of other houses in the price range.

At first glance, I was shocked that they were only asking $1.8M but I can see people in this market being turned off by the weird exterior. Not to mention the absurd cost of keeping all of those windows clean.

  • Anonymous

The good news is, you get equity at closing. The bad news is, semiannual window washing will set you back another $1.8M.

  • gonzo

message to all my friends: you don’t truly love me unless you buy this house as my birthday gift.

  • Anonymous

I’d buy it if only it was a little closer to the metro. Looks bikeable but not walkable. Oh well.

    • Jack Momma

If you have a house like that, you shouldn’t be riding the metro with commoners like us.

      • Anonymous

Not this tired old argument. You mean as soon as all the anti-car folks on this forum strike it rich they’ll suddenly want to go everywhere by car?

Your income does not dictate your lifestyle.

        • Chris Marchand

          Actually, it usually does.

          • Ben

Car, bike, walk, metro? Please, if you live in this house you better get around by jetpack.

        • Kev29

People who live in Forest Hills drive their Mercs from Broad Branch to Beach to Rock Creek Pkwy to their office garages.

And before you ask about the public schools in the area – who cares, their kids go to Sidwell/Lowell/Maret.

            Don’t forget Bullis

      watch out for the TROLLS

  • Veronika

this looks like a high school to me… not a fan.

    • Anonymous

It looks EXACTLY like the Boyd Law Building at the University of Iowa. I couldn’t live here – too traumatized.

      • caballero

I love the outside of the house, but I don’t care for the inside. Maybe, once they get some furniture in there and some things on the walls, it won’t look so antispectic and dull.

  • photodork

    Taxes are only $2000/month.

    • CornholioDC

Yeah, and even with a 20% down payment it is just shy of a $8K mortgage hit every month.

      Insane.

      • Anonymous

Two people each making $150k could afford it, I think. That’s not too insane.

        • A

Ha, maybe if it were 2005.

        • photodork

I think they would be overextended with a $10k/mo mortgage payment. More like $7K/mo for that income level.

          (assuming typical debt/income ratios apply)

          • Anonymous

I was going by the 8k mortgage mentioned above. My partner and I have a 4k mortgage and our salaries are half as much.

          • photodork

Yup those pesky taxes always get ya! I assume your $4K nut includes property tax.

          • Anonymous

Yes, that includes tax and homeowner’s. I was just going by what the guy above said because I didn’t feel like doing the math myself.

          • A

Wait, you’re saying you have a combined HH income of $150,000 and a mortgage payment of $4,000/mo?? That seems insane to me.

  • jenny

    Love it!

  • Cockster

Nah, too much wood colored trim around the house. Have to pass. So close, yet so far.

[ps. Cannot help to think those kitchen cabinets looks just a little too much like the standard Home Depot/Ikea cabinets all flipped houses now have.. :-P ]

  • Pravda

Never – I’d rather live in the IntelSat Blding – same look and within walking distance to Metro.

  • andy

All I can think of is science fiction with all of those windows and the modern look.

Spock, what should we do? The Romulans are charging their weapons and we are losing power!

  • Sully

BEST DEAL on PoP so far. Love it. I don’t think this would be a mortgage type sell. Someone in the market would put hefty sum down or pay all.
