“Dear PoP,

DC was voted one of the top 10 friendliest cities for Runners. Now that the weather is nice the runners are out in full force! If you’re looking to get into shape this summer or want to find fellow runners there are some awesome local groups to help keep you motivated:

DC Road Runners Club, Georgetown Running Company:

The DC Road Runners Club’s training programs are your opportunity to successfully prepare for the fall distance race of your choice. Discover the motivation and camaraderie that can only be found in a training group while reaching your distance running goals! The Fall Ten-Miler & Half-Marathon Program starts on Saturday, July 9 at Georgetown Running Company, with an optional Jump Start program beginning Saturday, June 11. A full marathon program is also being offered. Click here for more info

Fleet Feet Running Store, Adams Morgan:

FLEET FEET Ladies Night Fun Run! Ladies will begin to gather at FLEET FEET at 6pm on Wednesdays and head out to run at 6:30 on a 3 – 5 miles course we will provide.

Fleet Feet also offers a variety of training programs- Click here for more info

Pacers Logan Circle:

Designed for runners seeking a supportive group atmosphere with scheduled meet ups, access to a cadre of coaches, and who want to have a little fun too, the Pacers Distance Training Program is a great way to get in shape, stay in shape, or make a commitment to a goal event. Click here for More info

Potomac Runners (PR):

PR meets every Tuesday and Thursday night for a 5– 8 mile training run near the US Capitol Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC, beginning at 6:30 PM. PR also offers a variety of training programs- Click here for more info”

City Sports also has a Run Club:
    19th Street Store (19th between L & M)- Tuesday 6:30pm
    Georgetown Store (M & 33rd)- Thursday 6:30pm

  • Hash House Harriers

    Here’s a little article about hashing: http://crasstalk.com/2011/05/hashers-drinkers-with-a-running-problem/

    Here are DC kennels: http://dchashing.com/

    • Is Everybody Happy?

You bet your ass we are!

Best hash house in DC, perhaps this hemisphere.

Thanks for posting – good info to check out! I am training for a race and was just looking up running groups in the area today.

http://wwww.backonmyfeet.org has five running teams in DC – You may not get the speed and distance of more traditional running clubs, but I have had a great experience and have met some amazing people

  • 14th St Heights

DC Frontrunners is a running club that caters primarily to the LGBT community.

The (non-runner) wife would be less than thrilled to be left a single parent two nights a week. I have to get my mileage in while the wife and kid are still in bed or else during a break in the workday.

    • yo yo yo

I hear that! Nothing like a 4:30 am run!

    • L’anonyme

In your situation, you might get a lot of use out of a treadmill. They’re great.

  • Greg

You should just go to Carousel. Sooner or later the Sandmen always get you.

As a side note, Lulumon (or however it’s spelled) posts lots of runner groups, and I think they also sponsor running groups.

Maybe I’m influenced by the sponsorship logo, but Potomac River Running has both group runs and training programs associated with most of their stores including the Cleveland Park one.

If for some reason you want to run without beer. Personally I think hashing is the only way to go.

I also often see a bunch of runners in matching shirts running the trails in RCP.

If you live in Bloomingdale/Eckington/Ledroit there is a local, non-shop sponsored group called Big Daddy’s Running Club. Started by a local guy just looking to get people off of their butts, all paces welcome. Meet at the corner of 2nd and RI Ave NW at 6:00 on Tues/Thurs and 7:00 on Sundays
