The flier says:

“Single Family Kalorama Mansion. Nearly 7,500 TOTAL SQUARE FEET (5,400 Top 3 floors, 2,000 Basement). Zoned R5D-Diplomatic overlay. Ambassador’s residence, Chancery, Art Gallery, endless possibilities. Garage Parking and Large back yard Large scale rooms, with 12′ celings. Elevator. Former Home of Greek Legation and the second secretary of the British embassy, George Young.”

You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.

Well, this has def. been a house of the day in the past. Holy cow. Do you think the inside is just as good as the outside? It’s yours for $2,695,000. And I had no idea George Young lived here…

  • Kalorama

I love Kalorama, it is by the far the most prestigious address in DC and the most under rated.

In my opinion, this house isnt in the same category as House Porn because its basically a museum meant to entertain diplomatic guests. Great, interesting find, nonetheless. Seems to be reasonably priced – but its not really welcoming for a home.

    • How can something be both prestigious and underrated?

      • Kalorama

Easy, to the people who know about the homes there, the history, and the past and present residents, its prestigious. To many, Kalorama is unknown. Just a place with some big houses close to Dupont.

I appreciate your nearly immediate snarky response nitpicking over semantics though.

Prestige isnt always high profile. It can be understated or lesser known. Doesnt mean that it isnt prestigious.

        • OatsDC

          Zing!

        • Prestige isnt always high profile. It can be understated or lesser known. Doesnt mean that it isnt prestigious.

Actually, the very definition of prestige is that it’s well known and held in esteem. It’s pretty much the very opposite of underrated.

More importantly, Kalorama is in no way unknown and/or underrated.

          • Kalorama

This is a ridiculous argument. Prestigious is clearly a relative term. So is underrated. Simply say you disagree instead of being snarky sarcastic and petty. I actually looked up the definition of prestige, same as you, and acting as if I’m incorrect is just intellectually dishonest as my intended meaning of prestige clearly fits within the definition.

As for the other commenter, I dont live in Kalorama – I am just a fan.

        • Mike

          Who’s being snarky now?

Kalorama is an unknown to me as well, but I guess I was right when I figured that the people who live there probably have serious attitude problems and like to take out frustration with their shortcomings in the comments sections of blogs.

I particularly love the 30″ CRT TV. Not a whole lot of Boardwalk Empire or Sarah Palin’s Alaska watching going on there.

    • Greg

If it’s being used as an ambassador’s residence, the people living there probably aren’t all that familiar with HD programming or large TVs. HD adoption and programming availability is actually much higher in the US than almost anywhere else in the world.

    • DC Girl

And the TV is on a tiny cart with wheels! LOL

  • MK

It looks like a small hotel instead of a house. Condo conversion.

  • IHOP

Love the historical gray plush carpeting on the stairs.

  • EPF

It’s a $2.7 million home with Ikea bookshelves. It’s very down to earth.

  • erin

Beautiful facade. Gross interior. Gross carpet on the stairs, office complex railings, random half walls.

Weird virtual tour. Where’s the kitchen? Bathrooms?

And why doesn’t that huge bedroom have any doors?

    • anon.

      More than gross interior. Hideous.
And aside from the interior, there is nothing left of the original house inside.
Might as well convert the place to flats.

  • JenDC

I agree that the interior is unattractive, but for the size and location I think the price is very attractive. Whether it becomes another Embassy showhouse or a condo conversion, who knows.

  • Anonymous

i only see one out of place wall, but its not all that bad. yeah the carpet is nasty as the sins that created those stains, but i don’t see how people call the place “Hideous”. damn i want your life.

and “kalarama” i’d love to see your list of top prestigious and top underrated neighborhoods.

    • anon.

You may want my life but I/m not done with it yet.
      Get your own.

  • Kalorama

I think at 2.7m the downsides of the interior have been priced in…

  • johnny kwest

hideous, both inside and out…2007 columbia was truly a gem. i wonder whether that prop remained single family.

  • Braticus

I’m sorry, but the house next door went for less and is FABULOUS inside. Take $1 million off & then lets talk.
