Free in DC: Things to do Tonight – Sunday! 4.22.10 – 4.25.10

Happy Earth Day everyone! It’s Amy from Free in DC happy to be back with you here at PoP posting highlights from my site! Below you will find a list of free and low cost events happening this Thursday – Sunday. Hope you get to enjoy some sunshine today and some of these events over the weekend! Continues after the jump.
Highlights for Thursday April 22nd – Sunday April 25th


So much to choose from, many of which have an Earth Day theme of course so I’ll list those first. If you head over to Earth Day Network’s Rally on The National Mall which runs from noon – 7:00pm and features a list of guest speakers, mostly political ones. You can also head over any of the three Busboys and Poets locations for extended happy hour and eco-friendly cocktails using sustainable spirits from VeeV and Leopold Bros, 5:00pm – 10:00pm. Two additional Earth Day events include Socialize Better’s Happy Hour at Stoney’s in Logan Circle, 6:00pm – 9:00pm and GreenDrinks DC Happy Hour at Urbana in Dupont from 5:30pm – 7:30pm.

On the Arts front, there is a Free Concert at National Geographic tonight featuring two bands, a Jazz Quartet and a Gospel group, 6:00pm & 7:15pm and Artomatic hosts a Happy Hour at Bistro Bistro in Dupont from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. There is also an Art Opening at Longview Gallery tonight from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.  If you want to just Sip and Shop, you can also swing by M29 at 29th & Penn for free champagne while you check out their new space from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
Friday during the day…

Attend a Free Organ Concert from 12:10pm – 1:00pm, and every Friday, at the National City Christian Church on Thomas Circle. The Friday Morning Music Club also performs a Free Classical Concert at the Sumner School on 17th St from 12:00pm – 1:00pm featuring the works of Bach, Dvorak and Schubert. Friday is also the last chance to see Brad Ulreich’s La Femme da Vine Digital Surrealism art works on view at Vivid Solutions Gallery.

Friday Night…

If you want to hear some live music in a non-bar setting, head over to the Potter’s House in Adams Morgan from 7:00pm – 10:30pm for their weekly “Sounds of Hope” event, which always benefits charity, this is an all ages event and donations are appreciated. You can also check out a Free Korean Film Screening at the Free Gallery from 7:00pm – 9:00pm. If you want to head over to H St, NE, you can also check out “Anniething Goes” at Littel Miss Whiskey’s which will benefit the Global Watern Network, 21+ 9:30pm – Close.

Saturday during the Day…
You can take the metro over to New York Avenue for the Open House at O St Studios which features over 4 floors of studio space and over 20 artists, from 11:00am – 5:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday! Saturday is also the last chance to see the Children’s Drawings from Hiroshima at Smith Farm on U St.  It’s also the 19th Annual Garden Fair at the Aboretum and there will be a free festival with music, food, plant vendors, activities and more from 9:00am – 4:00pm. You can stop by for a Special Event at View 14 at 2303 14th St, NW from 12:00pm – 4:00pm in their community room where you can sip complementary cocktails and sample passed hor d’oeuvres while enjoying the works from local boutique vendors including my friend D from MiSHi jewlery designs. While there, be sure to visit the rooftop for amazing views of the city.Irvine Contemporary features works by Iranian artists, open to the public on Saturday from 4:00pm – 6:00pm.
Saturday Night…

Art Opening at Project 4 featuring works by Tricia Keightley and Jenn Figg, 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Transformer Gallery presents a free showing of My Barbarian on Saturday, 8:00pm, seating will be limited so arrive early.

Sunday during the Day….

Two events in Adams Morgan this Sunday, The “Bow Wow Pow Wow” for dogs and dog lovers and the 19th Annual Student Show from Hinkley Pottery, both from 11:00am – 5:00pm. It’s also the huge Climate Rally in Celebration of Earth Day on Sunday on The Mall from 11:00am – 7:00pm, featuring speakers such as James Cameron and Rev. Jesse Jackson and Music from Sting, The Roots, John Legend, Joss Stone and more, and it’s Free. It’s also “Happy Birthday, Ella!” celebration at SAAM featuring Live Jazz from 3:00pm – 5:00pm.

Sunday Night…

BloomBars hosts “A Thousand Blooms” from 6:00pm – 9:00pm, with photography, fashion, dance performances and film shorts. Of course, there is always the weekly Free Classical Music at the National Gallery of Art at 6:30pm and IMCW Meditation at All Souls at 6:00pm, dhana, donation, based.
