As I mentioned yesterday, thanks to all those who wrote in, the new Pica Taco located at 1406 Florida Ave, NW just had it’s grand opening. This whole week you can buy one taco get one free. And I’ll echo the sentiment of some readers – the space looks great:

PoP – you didn’t answer the most important question…were the tacos any good? Having a nice looking place is fine, but I want good food.

I ate there last night. The barbacoa taco was delicious! Very reasonably priced (even without the buy 1 get 1 free special). Most importantly, the owner/staff was very personable and friendly. I will definitely be back to support this location.

Tried the barbacoa and the al pastor taco. Both were super yummy. Just the right about of meat, sauce, spice and onion and cilantro. Very good. I’ll be back.

Went there for lunch yesterday. And to echo the above commenters: It was great. I had the barbacoa tacos – reasonably priced without the deal, a steal with the deal, and delicious. The owners and staff were super nice. I’ll definitely be back.

Went there for a late lunch yesterday. We were extra hungry, so we ordered the chicken and pastor tortas and got the free barbacoa taco on the side. Deelishuss! My boyfriend said that he liked Super Tacos’ tortas better. Not so for me. Super Tacos’ tortas are too big and overstuffed (“super” big and overstuffed, even). Pica Taco’s were just the right size and amount. The taco was so fresh and good, too. And the hot sauces were awesome (chipotle was best for me; boyfriend liked the salsa verde better).

And now I’m hungry, again. I just might have to stop for a quick bite on my way home from work tonight. :)

  • Anyone know the hours?

I just called their Columbia Heights location (which closes at 8 p.m.), and the lady who answered the phone said the U St. location closes at 9 p.m.

  • Discovered this place, via the balloons out front, on Sunday. EXCELLENT food, great prices, clean bright space, super nice people.
