The Craigslist ad says:

“Great 1 bed room luxury apartment on the 8th Floor, the condo is 725 square ft.Features of the Condo — UTILITIES ARE INCLUDED IN THE MONTHLY RENT- Stove, Fridge, Dishwasher, Washer, All Existing Light Fixtures included, Dryer, All Window Coverings- Premium Building Location- Security available 24 hours a day- Birch floors (hardwood)- 1 parking space included (additional space available)Lease Details:- Must sign contract for 6 months or longer- Only $200 deposit and first months rent to move in- Animals allowed. Does $740 sound reasonable for this 1 bedroom? It almost sounds to good to be true, right?

This one at 300 Mass Ave., NW for $1828 seems more realistic…

  • Eric in Ledroiit

    fraud

  • Beoth

Definitely fishy, or the deal of the century.

  • Petworthian

Bait and switch for sure. Don’t give them your social security number.

  • K St.

This is definitely one of those where they’ll be “out of the country for a while” but if you just “mail them a certified check for the first months rent” then “their friend will meet you with the keys”

  • It is already flagged for removal.

  • MLD

FAKE. You’ll get an e-mail like this:

HELLO THIS IS THE REVEREND LL COOL J I AM CURRENTLY DOING MISSIONARY WORK IN ALBANIA…

There are tons of these ads on craigslist – I don’t understand why; who the hell would fall for this?!

  • former Georgetowner

    maybe they meant $1740

  • Another Option?

definitely fake. my BF lives a block away in a one bedroom, no parking and pays $2300.

  • Total fraud. But it’s fun to toy with these people until you finally tell them you know they’re scam artists. You will get emails back cursing you out in Romanian (or at least I did).

  • Columbia Heights Boy

Are there even apartment buildings there?! It’s all offices.

  • Columbia Heights

    Maybe it’s a Section 8 apartment. LOL

  • POP Lover

This is definitely a Scam Amanda P is a well known scam artist name

  • Alex

This one pops up on Craigslist at least once a day, with varying purported rental amounts (between $650 and $800). Pretty much always the same description and contact name, and always the same address. Its a shame they can’t block this person from repeated posts.
